Local Connection:
Tanukis are (arguably) racoon-dogs or badgers that appear in a number of Japanese folktales. Statues of these mystical creatures can be found in bars and restaurants throughout the country, often with an enlarged scrotum if male. Many of these statues are crafted in Shigaraki and then shipped elsewhere.
