Local Connection:
The temple complex on Mt. Kurama is located just north of Kyoto. This sacred area has a connection with martial arts and tengu, forest goblins or gaurdians. These mystical creatures have human forms with bird-like features including a long nose suggesting a beak. Tengu are well known for playing tricks on villainous monks and priests.
