Local Connection:
Uguisudani is named for the Japanese song bird which used to inhabit this area. The
Japanese Bush Warbler, or Nightengale as it was once called, has a very distinctive song
and is presently endangered. The bird has historically been a popular subject for paintings
and poetry, and also lent its name to the famous squeaking floor boards in Japanese architecture.
